MATERIALS & CARE

Merino Wool

Merino wool comes from the Merino sheep, a breed known for its exceptionally soft fleece. The wool is pleasant on the skin and naturally antibacterial.

Our merino wool is 100% mulesing-free, and the merino wool knit we use is knitted in Finland! It’s a flexible interlock knit with a fabric weight of 250 g/m².

The origin of the merino wool varies. Most of it comes from Uruguay, with smaller amounts from Argentina and South Africa.

Merino wool is a wonderful natural material, ideal for changing weather conditions. Our merino wool products are perfect for year-round outdoor use. They are breathable, high-quality, and durable. All our products are designed and manufactured in Central Ostrobothnia, Finland.

Merino Wool Garment Care

Taking proper care of your merino wool garments is essential for durability and hygiene. Here are our tips for caring for merino products:

  • Merino wool is antibacterial and repels dirt. We always recommend airing your garment as the first option – merino wool naturally removes odors with fresh air.
  • Wash by hand in cold water or use the wool wash program in your machine. Use only detergent made specifically for wool. Do NOT use fabric softener.
  • If using a washing machine: wash at 30°C with a gentle spin cycle (max. 800 rpm), preferably with a wool program. If that’s unavailable, a delicate program may be used.
  • Avoid scrubbing or wringing during washing. Use a laundry bag if machine washing.
  • Dry flat on a surface or on a drying rack.
  • Reshape the garment while damp to its original size. The knit may shrink approximately 5% in length.

By following these care instructions, your 100% merino wool garments will stay in great condition for a long time.

Sustainable Merino Wool Production

Merino wool producers are committed to ethical practices and the wellbeing of both the sheep and the land they graze on. The Merino sheep live freely on pastures with plenty of high-quality food.

The producers believe that taking good care of the sheep and their environment results in the best quality merino wool. They are dedicated to mulesing-free wool production.

The producers are also educated in how pasture biodiversity affects both the environment and the sheep. They have developed strategies to protect and enhance the surrounding ecosystem.

They have also significantly reduced the use of supplements by optimizing the natural quality and richness of the pasture. Additionally, the use of pesticides has been minimized by introducing natural pest control methods.

Merino sheep have continuous access to food and water and are provided with adequate shelter. The pastures are also comfortable for rest.

If pain, illness, or injury occurs, the sheep receive quick diagnosis and treatment. Merino sheep are only kept with others of the same breed and have plenty of space to graze.

Efforts are also made to minimize fear and stress by ensuring a peaceful, natural environment – to ensure that the Merino sheep can live comfortably and healthily.
